Planning a Custom Mousepad Gift: Budget, Artwork and Delivery

Plan a personal desk gift around the recipient, the complete order cost and the time needed to approve the design—not just the date of the celebration.

Gift planning checklist: choose the pad, review the artwork, then allow for production and delivery.
A planning checklist, not a guaranteed delivery timeline. Artwork approval comes before custom production.

Plan the gift in three parts: choose something that fits the recipient’s desk, budget for the complete order rather than the item price alone, and leave time to review the artwork before production. A custom pad is a more practical surprise when the size and delivery plan are settled first.

Start with the recipient’s desk, not the biggest size

A favorite illustration can make the choice feel obvious, but the recipient still needs space to use it. Find out how much room is available beside their keyboard. A desk with a monitor stand, speakers and a full-size keyboard may have much less clear space than a photograph suggests.

If you cannot measure the desk yourself, ask for the clear front-to-back and side-to-side measurements. Compare those with the selected product’s outer dimensions and maximum raised height. Do not assume a larger support will suit the recipient better. The size and price guide compares classic and full-body formats, whose Small labels describe different measurements.

Work with artwork the recipient will want to keep

A pet portrait, an original character or a personal illustration can give the gift a specific connection to its owner. Use a file you created or have permission to reproduce. If an artist made the image, check the agreed usage terms before ordering a printed item; owning a copy of a picture is not the same as knowing its reproduction terms.

For a surprise, keep the subject simple enough that you can judge the crop without needing to guess the recipient’s preferences. If exact colors, a particular expression or small lettering matter, involving them in the proof review may be more useful than keeping every detail secret. Avoid adding names or dates until you have checked their spelling.

Compare the total cost, not an “under $50” label

At the time of writing, classic Small costs $32.99 and Medium costs $49.99, before shipping and any applicable import charges. Those item prices do not guarantee an order total below $50.

For a concrete example, one 275 g Small pad with an available $30 FedEx or DHL option would total $62.99 for the item and shipping, before destination import duties or taxes. A 530 g Medium falls above the first 0.5 kg express tier: using the current $40 tier gives $89.99 for the item and shipping. These are examples for those item weights, not quotes for every address or a multi-item cart.

Eligible standard US destinations currently have a free USPS option, while designated remote areas and supported territories have different charges. Enter the complete delivery address to check the options for that order. Our shipping guide explains the current rates and confirms that products ship from China and import charges are the recipient’s responsibility. Consider that possibility before sending a gift straight to someone else’s address.

Separate proof review, production and carrier transit

Your planning window begins before the parcel is handed to a carrier. Allow time to select the image, adjust it to the pad and review the production proof. Custom production is currently estimated at 3–5 days after artwork approval; carrier transit is a separate estimate of 3–15 working days, depending on service and destination.

A revision to the artwork or a delayed proof response can move the start of production. Customs, holidays and carrier disruptions can also affect arrival. Do not turn the shortest end of each estimate into a promised delivery date. If the gift is for a fixed occasion, contact the store with the destination and required date before ordering.

Use a short approval checklist

  • Confirm the pad family, size and support style.
  • Check names, dates and other text character by character.
  • Look at the whole cut outline and keep important details away from the edges and raised areas.
  • Confirm the recipient name and full delivery address.
  • Keep the original artwork and the order details available for follow-up.

The artwork preparation guide explains crop and preview checks in more detail. When those choices are ready, open the custom studio to build the layout. Saving a design alone does not start production; an accepted order and reviewed proof are required.
